RARE FRENCH AVANT-FUNK CLASSIC BY RAMUNTCHO MATTA REISSUED FOR THE FIRST TIME. A SOUNDTRACK FOR A FRENCH DANCE SHOW, THE ALBUM WAS REMASTERED FROM RAMUNTCHO'S ORIGINAL MASTERS WITH NEW LINER NOTES BY JACQUES DENIS
Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the vinyl reissue of Ramuntcho Matta's rare first self titled album from 1985, mixing funk, no wave and ambient soundscapes. The album released on tiny French label Mosquito was conceived as the soundtrack for French choreographer Regine Chopinot's play "VIA" with costumes by fashion rising star Jean-Paul Gaultier. It was recorded at a buoyant time in Paris when Matta - who had just spent a few years in New York following the death of his brother Gordon Matta-Clark - immersed himself in Paris' underground scene. Consisting of 19 tracks alternating between funk and ambient soundscapes, the album has been remastered for vinyl from Ramuntcho's masters and features a 4-page booklet with liner notes (Eng/Fr) by Jacques Denis in conversation with Ramuntcho and a 2p insert featuring the original poster for the VIA show by famed illustrator Marc Caro (Delicatessen)

An absolutely brilliant album from front to back. My goodness: the playing on this thing! I could say it's worth it alone for the grooves (the drumming!) but that would do an enormous disservice to the other players and of course Morgan's incredibly soulful vocals. Tristan Louth-Robins
Psychedelic folk-rock, hazy synthesized funk, and smoky French vocals are just a few of the elements in Project Gemini's latest record. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 6, 2024
